These are small cysts that can occur anywhere on the skin. Patients may often have been aware of a small lump for a while before seeking treatment. Occasionally they can grow and rarely they become infected and can form an abscess. They often have a little dimple over the surface which is the site that the cyst is tethered to the skin. Because they may become unsightly or cause local tenderness many people will want them removed. This can usually be done with a simple procedure under local anaesthetic. Occasionally general anaesthetic may be used for bigger cysts or due to patient choice. They can occur wherever there is body hair, but common places are in the scalp and on the main part (trunk) of your body.
