Second opinion & review Specialist Multidisciplinary Team Meeting

Basingstoke Colorectal Partners and The Peritoneal Malignancy Institute in Basingstoke receives NHS and private second opinion referrals.  Our second opinion process is led by expert consultants to help support the best possible treatment plan.

When you are referred to our team your specialist will send through a referral letter along with your relevant medical information including images, scans, radiology and histology reports.  In the first instance this will be reviewed and the information discussed at our Specialist Multidisciplinary Team Meeting (SMDT).

This process enables our team to  provide a comprehensive review of your current and past medical history and to identify the best treatment options for you.  This review may suggest new treatment options or confirm you are already receiving the best treatment helping to make an informed decision about what is best for you.  Following the SMDT we will be in contact with your referring team with the outcome of the SMDT who will convey the results to you.

An initial second opinion appointment can be made available for you to come to the outpatients to see one of the Consultants.  We can offer this by you attending The Hampshire Clinic outpatients in person, by phone or Teams.  We will be in contact with you following the SMDT.  Please note our specialist centre and the team offer surgical treatment advice and review for second opinion.  The team are not able to advise on specific oncological treatment pathways, this would be from specialist oncology review. 

Referrals to the Basingstoke Colorectal Partners at the Hampshire Clinic are for private or self funding referrals. Please note that prior to any appointments, investigations or procedures you will need to contact your insurance company for pre authorisation.  An initial second opinion consultation lasts for approximately one hour and the fee is £500.  Subsequent double follow up appointments last approximately half an hour and the fee is £250.
